North Kipling Junior Middle School

Our school motto is "If it's to be, it's truly up to me!"

North Kipling serves a multi-ethnic community, diversity is a reality, not an issue. Many of our families are new Canadians who speak different languages such as Punjabi, Tamil, Urdu, Hindi and Creole, in addition to English. We have 1 Settlement Worker at North Kipling JMS, 2 days a week, Thursday and Friday, to assist newcomer families. We are dedicated to teaching our students and working closely with their families and the community.
We are committed to teaching responsibility and respect in a peaceful atmosphere, to providing a strong program with a foundation in literacy, numeracy, equity and anti-racist education and to providing every student with the opportunity to succeed. Our mascot is the cougar cub and our logo is a paw print.

In our primary division, we have incorporated the program "From 3 to 3" which improves literacy through the development of language and social reasoning.  Students learn poems, chants, stories and listen to stories with underlying themes. We have made a major commitment to providing the most up-to-date technology to improve our students' literacy and numeracy skills.  We have a television and VCR/DVD, overhead projector, computer with a printer and an internal phone in every classroom. During the past three years, we have added three SMARTBOARDS and an ELMO for each division through our participation with the Model Schools for Inner Cities Initiative.  The morning announcements are produced by the students and broadcast to every classroom.
